Cute till slip

I received this at an excellent coffee shop called La Scala in the Odakyu Ace Centre in the Shinjuku Station complex. Why excellent? Because it plays classical music (including baroque) (in other words, total happiness) non-stop.

Sky Tree and sky

I'm going to do a few more posts about Sky Tree and the beautiful summer sky above Tokyo.

I start with a strange phenomenon that I observed in September: depending on the clouds and the angle of the sunlight, Sky Tree's antenna can appear either pitch black or icy white. I didn't use Photoshop; I didn't adjust my camera's settings; I merely snapped what was in front of me.

Kamakura koma-inu

Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū is the most important Shinto shrine in Kamakura and one of the most important in Japan. It's only fitting that the koma-inu that guard its outer torii are two hefty fellows. Scrawny and puny just wouldn't do in this environment, would it?

Also note the open mouth (ah) and the closed mouth (un). I wrote more about koma-inu and their open/closed mouths here.

I don't think these guys have moved much recently. The photo was taken in Mukōjima.

Bush clover

The next eagerly awaited flower in Japan is bush clover (ハギ, hagi) which will bloom towards the end of September. These photos were taken two days ago in Mukōjima Hyakkaen Garden, and as you can see, not much is happening yet. Once it's full bloom time, I'll return to Mukōjima and also visit Kamakura's hagi temples. Well. That's the plan. We'll see.
